Lunaris celebrates the quiet, mesmerising beauty of the night sky, drawing inspiration from the moon’s surface and distant planetary topographies. Guided by the Japanese philosophy of mono no aware, a sensitivity to the ephemeral, the design captures the subtle, transient qualities of lunar light and form. Using traditional marbling techniques, cool greys and silver metallics create interconnected circular motifs reminiscent of craters, lunar cycles, and microscopic cellular structures. For Lunaris, as well as Wabi and Night, Calico collaborated with Dieu Donné, a renowned studio dedicated to contemporary paper-making. Together they experimented with materials and techniques to create some of the largest marbled papers ever produced, translating these intricate, large-scale designs into unique wallpapers.
