Variable brightness control for solar viewing Available in 1.25" and 2" barrel sizes Threads directly onto standard eyepieces Engineered for use with Lunt White Light Wedges Description FAQ Specifications In the Box Warranty Lunt Polarizing Filter The Lunt Polarizing Filter provides essential, continuously variable brightness control for solar observation, offered in both 1.25" and 2" formats to match your equipment. It is the recommended accessory for any Lunt White Light Wedge, allowing you to fine-tune the Sun's intense image to a perfectly comfortable level for detailed visual work. Variable Brightness Control for 1.25" and 2" Solar Setups When observing the Sun through a white light wedge, the resulting image is safe but intensely bright. The Lunt Polarizing Filter screws directly onto the barrel of your 1.25" or 2" eyepiece to manage this brightness. By simply rotating the filter's housing, you can adjust the image from bright to dim, tailoring the view to your personal preference and revealing subtle details in sunspots and granulation that might otherwise be washed out by glare. How do I use the Lunt Polarizing Filter? The Lunt Polarizing Filter is simple to use. First, choose the filter size (1.25" or 2") that matches your eyepiece barrel. Screw the filter onto the bottom of the eyepiece, then insert the eyepiece into your Lunt White Light Wedge. To adjust image brightness, simply rotate the eyepiece within the diagonal; the filter assembly will turn, changing the polarization angle and dimming or brightening the view. Can I use the Lunt Polarizing Filter by itself for solar viewing? Absolutely not. The Lunt Polarizing Filter is an image-dimming accessory, not a primary solar safety filter. It does not block the harmful infrared (IR) or ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the Sun. It must be used in conjunction with a primary solar filter like a Lunt White Light Wedge to observe the Sun safely. Which size Lunt Polarizing Filter do I need? You should choose the Lunt Polarizing Filter that matches the barrel size of the eyepieces you intend to use with your Lunt White Light Wedge. If your wedge is a 2" model but you use 1.25" eyepieces with an adapter, you will need the 1.25" filter. How does the Lunt Polarizing Filter help when observing sunspots with a White Light Wedge? Observing sunspots requires managing the extreme contrast between the dark umbra and the bright surrounding photosphere. The Lunt Polarizing Filter allows you to reduce the overall image brightness, which lowers eye fatigue and makes it easier to discern fine details within the sunspot's penumbra and the granular texture of the solar surface. Will the Lunt Polarizing Filter help reduce glare when observing the Moon? Yes. While designed for solar use with a wedge, a variable polarizing filter is also highly effective for lunar observation, especially around the full Moon phase when the glare can be overwhelming. The Lunt Polarizing Filter allows you to dial down the Moon's brightness to a comfortable level, improving contrast on subtle features like crater rays and rilles. Does the Lunt Polarizing Filter impart any color to the image? The Lunt Polarizing Filter is designed to be color-neutral. It reduces the brightness of all wavelengths of light evenly, ensuring that the white-light view of the Sun remains true to color without any noticeable tint.
