Lutein is also known as "the eye vitamin." It is a type of vitamin called a carotenoid which is related to beta-carotene and vitamin A and used to prevent eye diseases such as an e ye disease that leads to vision loss in older adults. Lutein is one of two major carotenoids found as a color pigment in the human eye and it is thought to function as a light filter, protecting the eye tissues from sunlight damage. Due to its powerful antioxidant properties, lutein may help reduce inflammation in your eyes, fight off free radicals, reduce oxidative stress, and boost the sharpness of your vision. Show more
