Created by artists and designers Peter Dunham and Linnea Gits of UUSI, LUX Tarot grew from years of exploration into mythology, symbolism, traditional craftsmanship, and the enduring language of tarot. Rather than recreating a historical deck, UUSI builds upon tarot’s archetypal foundations to create something distinctly its own—timeless in its structure, yet original in its imagery and purpose. Every card began as an original hand-carved linocut by Linnea Gits. The carved lines remain visible throughout the finished deck, giving the imagery texture, movement, and the unmistakable evidence of the artist’s hand at work. Figures emerge through bold contrasts and expressive marks, while symbols repeat and transform across the cards, inviting the reader to notice relationships that may not reveal themselves immediately. Although LUX draws upon the structure and symbolic language of the Tarot de Marseille, it is not an attempt to reproduce the past. Marseille provides the deck with a familiar grammar; UUSI uses that grammar to explore a contemporary philosophy of reading rooted in attention, embodiment, intuition, and lived experience.
