The design of our classic Melbourne mug is based on a real 1865 Victorian advert. This poster was made to promote the SS Great Britain's record-breaking steam from Liverpool to Australia. Our mugs are supplied by Bristol-based ceramic artist Bev Milward. Bev buys remainder chinaware manufactured in Stoke, then decorates each piece individually with ceramic transfers she designs herself. She produces everything in small batches, firing them herself in her solar-powered kiln. Between 1852 and 1874 the SS Great Britain made 32 round trips to Melbourne, carrying people hoping to start a new life in Australia. No other steamship was big or reliable enough to travel regularly to Australia until the 1880s. The SS Great Britain made this journey a month faster than sailing ships. 400ml china mug Dimensions: 90mm x 85mm Made in the UK, designed and decorated in Bristol. Dishwasher and microwave safe
