Quertier 1799 Note from the designer - "In 1779, the Quaker Friends School at Ackworth, Yorkshire, was established for the purpose of educating young people of both sexes, and instilling the values of their Society; equality, simplicity, peace. Girls received nearly the same instruction as boys. Out of this school came a fascinating style of needlework characterized by a distinct, clear, formal style of lettering, unique symmetrical whole and fractional medallions with geometric, floral and animal motifs, a vocabulary of short sentimental expressions, and other readily identifiable spot motifs. This particular sampler was stitched by a member of the Quertier family, Quakers from the Channel Islands. Finely embroidered with black silk on a worsted wool ground." Stitch count: 319w x 194h
