Description The Gateway H2 is a compact wireless gateway unit built around the ESP32-H2-MINI-1-N2 module. It combines a 32-bit single-core RISC-V MCU running up to 96MHz with IEEE 802.15.4 wireless communication for Zigbee 3.0, Thread 1.3, and Thread-based Matter applications. The Gateway H2 communicates with M5Stack hosts through the Grove Port C UART interface and can work as a gateway, such as a Thread Border Router, or as an end device. Its hardware encryption engine, low-power operation, Type-C port, and reserved download header make it suitable for secure IoT prototyping, debugging, and deployment. Features Gateway H2 supports Zigbee, Thread, and Thread-based Matter protocols. ESP32-H2-MINI-1-N2 module with a 32-bit single-core RISC-V processor up to 96MHz. Product List 1 x Unit Gateway H2 1 x HY2.0-4P Grove Cable (20cm) Other Content The Gateway H2 can be used with a host to build cross-ecosystem connectivity, or it can run IoT tasks independently when the firmware design allows. For download mode, hold the Boot button, connect the USB cable, and release the button after the connection is stable. Pin mapping for the HY2.0-4P connector follows Grove Port C: black is GND, red is 5V, yellow is UART_RX, and white is UART_TX. The Gateway H2 is therefore a practical bridge when an M5Stack host needs UART access to an ESP32-H2 wireless co-processor. The Gateway H2 supports IEEE 802.15.4 based Zigbee 3.0, Thread 1.3, and Thread-based Matter workflows. How does it connect to an M5Stack host? It communicates through the Grove Port C UART interface, using the HY2.0-4P cable included in the package. Can it work as a Thread Border Router? Yes. The documentation describes using the module as a gateway, including Thread Border Router use, or as an end device depending on the firmware. How is firmware downloaded to the H2 chip? Use the Type-C port and Boot button download mode, or the reserved download header, for firmware flashing and debugging.
