Description The Infrared Reflective Sensor Unit is a compact self-emitting and receiving infrared sensor for M5Stack projects. The Unit Reflective IR detects reflected infrared light from a target surface and reports the result through both analog and TTL digital outputs, making the IR reflective sensor useful when a controller needs quick object, distance, or line status feedback. With an onboard LM393 comparator and adjustable rear potentiometer, the Infrared Reflective Sensor Unit lets users tune the digital threshold for different colors, surfaces, and distances. The analog output preserves reflected-light intensity, while the digital output gives a direct detection state for simple automation logic. The factory comparator threshold is set near 1.65V. Adjust the potentiometer only when the installation needs a different detection distance, because values outside the practical range can keep the red indicator permanently on or off. For repeatable projects, mount the Unit Reflective IR at a fixed height and test the IR reflective sensor against the real target material before final calibration. This helps the Unit Reflective IR and IR reflective sensor deliver consistent analog readings and reliable digital switching. Features Reflective infrared detection: the Unit Reflective IR combines an IR emitter and receiver for short-range surface and obstacle detection. Dual signal output: analog output represents reflected light intensity, while TTL digital output provides a clean trigger state. Adjustable sensitivity: the rear 10K potentiometer fine-tunes the comparator threshold for the IR reflective sensor. Visual feedback: the onboard red LED follows the digital output for fast setup and debugging. Grove connection: HY2.0-4P wiring carries 5V, GND, digital output, and analog output through PORT.B style pin mapping. Development support: the Infrared Reflective Sensor Unit works with Arduino, UIFlow1, and UIFlow2 examples. At the factory 1.65V threshold, white paper can be detected farther than a black printed surface. Increasing the threshold to about 2.15V extends the digital trigger distance for many targets, but every installation should be tested with its real material and lighting. Test Target Max Range at 1.65V Max Range at 2.15V Black printed paper 0cm 6.5cm White paper 13cm 28cm Color magazine cover 14cm 25.5cm Glossy metal mesh 31cm 43cm For stable results, mount the IR reflective sensor at a fixed angle, shield it from strong ambient infrared light when possible, and calibrate the potentiometer after final installation. The IR reflective sensor should be checked again after the mechanical position is locked. Resources Product documentation Schematic PDF Arduino example UIFlow1 documentation UIFlow2 documentation FAQ Can the Unit Reflective IR output both analog and digital signals? Yes. The analog output gives reflected infrared intensity, and the TTL digital output gives a threshold-based detection state. What does the potentiometer adjust? It adjusts the comparator threshold and therefore the detection sensitivity of the Infrared Reflective Sensor Unit. Is the module suitable for line tracking? Yes. The Unit Reflective IR and its IR reflective sensor design are well suited to line tracking, object detection, and short-range reflective sensing tasks.
