Grégoire and Judi Perron farm two and a half hectares at Journans, a village on the edge of the Bugey where the Jura massif runs into the Alpine foothills. Their holdings are scatt ered over more than twenty parcels, many of them only a few rows wide. In 2022 there was not enough fruit to go round, so they bought Macabeu from a friend in the south of France and made this instead. Macabeu has never grown up here and never will, which is more or less the point. Left on its skins it gives dried apricot, orange peel and a firm chalky tannin, with the bitter twist at the close that makes skin contact worth the trouble. Nothing added, sulphur included. Show more
