Magners Pear Cider 6Pk is a slow-fermented Irish pear cider at 4.5% ABV, sold in a six-pack of 330ml bottles. Produced in Clonmel, County Tipperary, by the C&C Group — the same company behind Ireland's best-known cider brand — this expression distinguishes itself by building on an apple cider base with 100% premium pears rather than simply flavoring apple cider with pear concentrate.Quick Facts: ABV: 4.5% | Origin: Clonmel, County Tipperary, Ireland | Style: Pear Cider | Producer: C&C Group (WM Magner Cidery)Production & HeritageThe Magners brand traces its roots to William Magner, who began making cider in Clonmel, County Tipperary — a region with a long tradition of apple and pear orcharding. Now owned by C&C Group, the cidery produces both its flagship apple cider and this pear variant using a process that starts with an apple base before introducing 100% premium quality pears. The pears are ripened, carefully selected, then added and filtered before the blend undergoes a slow fermentation and final cold filtration, resulting in a cleaner, brighter pear character than ciders that rely on artificial flavoring.Tasting NotesAroma: Light floral notes open first, followed by fresh pressed pear and a subtle sweetness. The nose is clean and restrained, letting the fruit speak without heavy perfume.Taste: The entry is crisp and lightly sweet, with immediate pear flavor that avoids cloying territory. Mid-palate, the cider builds to a lightly tart peak with hints of pear skin and a mild vinous quality. A semi-sweet balance holds throughout, supported by noticeable carbonation that keeps the mouthfeel lively.Finish: Semi-dry and clean, with a brief fade of pear and gentle acidity. The finish is short but refreshing, encouraging the next sip without lingering sweetness. How to Drink Magners PearThe classic Magners serve — poured over ice in a pint glass — works exceptionally well with the pear variant, as the chill amplifies the crisp, clean fruit character. Straight from the bottle at a cold temperature is equally satisfying on warm days. For cocktails, try it in a Pear Cider Spritz topped with prosecco and a sprig of rosemary for an effervescent aperitif. A Cider Mule — substituting Magners Pear for beer in a ginger-lime template — plays the pear tartness against ginger spice. It also works in a Snakebite variation, where the pear cider paired with a light lager creates a smoother, more aromatic twist on the British pub classic.Best For Casual summer barbecues where a lighter, fruit-forward alternative to beer fits the table Introducing cider-curious drinkers to pear cider as a gateway style Pairing with brunch dishes that call for something effervescent but lower in alcohol Stocking a mixed cooler for gatherings alongside lagers and hard seltzers Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat does Magners Pear taste like? Magners Pear delivers a crisp, lightly sweet pear flavor with mild tartness, supported by high carbonation and a semi-dry, clean finish. It leans refreshing rather than rich, with genuine pear character over artificial sweetness. How does Magners Pear compare to Stella Artois Cidre Pear? Both compete directly in the pear cider segment, but Magners Pear uses an apple base blended with 100% premium pears and undergoes slow fermentation, giving it a slightly more natural fruit profile. Stella Artois Cidre Pear tends toward a drier, more restrained style with Belgian brewing influence in its approach. Is Magners Pear good for beginners? Its approachable 4.5% ABV, mild sweetness, and clean pear flavor make it an excellent entry point for anyone exploring cider for the first time. The light body and high carbonation feel familiar to beer drinkers transitioning into cider.Where is Magners Pear made? Magners Pear Cider is produced at the WM Magner Cidery in Clonmel, County Tipperary, Ireland, operated by the C&C Group. Tipperary's temperate climate has supported fruit growing for centuries, making it a natural home for cider production. What foods pair well with Magners Pear? Soft, creamy cheeses like brie or camembert complement the pear sweetness. Smoked salmon benefits from the cider's acidity cutting through the fat. Roast pork with apple chutney creates a natural bridge between the apple base and pear fruit. Light salads with goat cheese and walnuts echo the cider's mild tartness, and fruit-based desserts like poached pears or apple tart mirror its core flavors. What sizes does Magners Pear come in? The most widely available format is this six-pack of 330ml bottles, though Magners also produces pint-sized (568ml) bottles and cans in select markets. Is Magners Pear worth the price? Magners Pear positions as an accessible, everyday pear cider that delivers genuine fruit character without a premium price tag. Within the mainstream pear cider category, it represents solid value, particularly given its slow-fermentation process and use of real pears over concentrate. Why Magners Pear?In a market where many pear ciders amount to apple cider with pear flavoring added, Magners takes a more deliberate approach — starting with an apple base and incorporating 100% premium pears before slow fermentation and cold filtration. That process translates directly into a cleaner, more authentic pear character than many mass-market competitors achieve. With over 38,000 ratings on Untappd averaging 3.4 out of 5, it has built a broad following among casual cider drinkers who want fruit-forward refreshment without sweetness overload. For a 4.5% ABV session cider that prioritizes drinkability and genuine pear flavor, it remains one of the most recognized names in the category.
