When I was painting the background for this piece, a magpie came and walked straight across it. Instead of covering up his footprints, I decided to keep them and work around them, painting over them in white to make them pop. To me, this made the artwork so much more special. The magpie left his own mark, reminding me that Country is always alive and walking with us. His footprints are now part of the story, symbolising guidance, protection, and the connections we share with all beings on this land. The flowing lines represent the pathways of rivers and songlines, always moving and connecting us. The dots are gatherings and seeds of knowledge, carrying the energy of Country. And the "U" shapes are our people, sitting together, sharing, learning, and keeping culture strong
