Mahlkönig E80W Grind-by-Sync: The Future of Automated Espresso The First Grinder That Dials Itself In The Mahlkönig E80W Grind-by-Sync (GbS) is not just an upgrade; it is a fundamental shift in how coffee is prepared professionally. By bridging the gap between grinder and espresso machine, the E80W GbS creates a "closed-loop" ecosystem that automates consistency. It removes the guesswork from dialing in, ensuring that your espresso shots remain within your target recipe, regardless of the barista on bar, the shift being worked, or the location of your cafe. The Sync Revolution: A Closed-Loop Ecosystem The defining feature of the E80W GbS is its ability to wirelessly communicate with compatible espresso machines (such as the La Marzocco Linea PB ABR, GB5 ABR, or KB90 ABR). Continuous Monitoring: The espresso machine monitors the extraction time of every shot. Instant Feedback: If a shot runs too fast or too slow, the machine instantly signals the grinder. Automatic Adjustment: The E80W’s high-precision electric motor physically adjusts the burr distance to correct the grind size (finer or coarser) automatically. This real-time calibration means the grinder is constantly "self-healing" its calibration, compensating for changes in temperature, humidity, or bean age without human intervention. Dual Functionality: GbW and GbS The E80W GbS is a versatile powerhouse designed to lead the market in two distinct ways: As a Grind-by-Sync (GbS) Solution: When paired with a Sync-enabled machine, it offers the ultimate automated workflow described above, perfect for high-volume chains or cafes demanding absolute uniformity. As a Standalone Grind-by-Weight (GbW) Grinder: Even without the sync feature, this unit stands as the pinnacle of gravimetric grinding. Featuring a high-precision load cell, it weighs every dose in real-time. This bypasses the inconsistencies of time-based grinding, ensuring that 18 grams is exactly 18 grams, regardless of bean density or hopper level. Engineering & Performance 80mm Special Steel Burrs: The heavy-duty engine of the E80W. These large flat burrs are engineered for rapid throughput and extreme longevity, delivering a fluffy, unimodal grind profile. Disc Distance Detection (DDD): Mahlkönig’s patented technology allows the grinder to measure the actual physical distance between the burrs. This provides a level of fineness control that is far more accurate than traditional adjustment collars. Motorized Micro-Adjustment: The grind setting is controlled by a precision electric motor. This allows for minute, repeatable changes to the burr gap, whether adjusted manually via the screen or automatically by the Sync system. Active Climate Control: To combat heat—the enemy of consistent extraction—the E80W employs a powerful active cooling system. This maintains a stable internal temperature, protecting your coffee’s aromatics during the busiest morning rushes. Elevated User Experience Portafilter Detection: The grinder automatically recognizes the portafilter handle, speeding up service and allowing for hands-free operation. 88.3mm High-Res Display: A massive, wide-angle color display provides a clear view of all metrics and settings, making navigation intuitive. Ambient Architecture: Despite its immense power, the E80W is designed for pleasantly quiet operation, preserving the ambiance of your cafe. Illuminated Precision: The adjustable spout features integrated LED lighting, ensuring the barista has a clear view of the fluffy, centered dose falling into the basket.
