Need extra help sewing your vintage jacket? We have a full Workshop on Stitch School, our online sewing classroom, to guide you through every step of the process. The class includes the PDF sewing pattern with lots of extra tips and tricks from our expert teacher Julie, who drafted the pattern! The Amelia Jacket is a 1940s-style waisted bomber jacket, named after the indomitable Amelia Earhart. This is a satisfying intermediate project with some great techniques to master. Amelia features bust darts, a zipped front, a flat collar, full-length sleeves with elasticated cuffs and a wide elasticated waistband. She is fully lined for a beautiful neat finish on the inside and hits at the natural waist. For a full vintage look, wear Amelia with a tea dress like our Lea Dress or high-waisted trousers like our Nina Trousers. Go more contemporary by throwing your bomber jacket over jeans and a t-shirt or wearing it over a jersey dress like our Carly Dress. The pattern works in a variety of medium weight fabrics such as cotton twill, canvas, corduroy or wool coatings. You could also make a luxurious version in brocade, or the perfect everyday jacket in denim!
