Malawi Barracuda Rhamphochromis sp. Malawi Barracuda is a fast, streamlined Rhamphochromis-type hap with a silver predatory look and plenty of open-water energy. Origin and Habitat Native Region: Lake Malawi, lake-wide Rhamphochromis-type stock. Natural Habitat: Shallow vegetated habitats, intermediate zones, and open swimming areas. Physical Characteristics Size: Up to about 10 inches. Coloration: Males and females look similar, usually with a silver to metallic body and subtle fin/color accents as they mature. Body Shape: Long, streamlined predator-style hap body built for speed and open-water movement. Behavior and Temperament Temperament: Mildly aggressive; conspecifics can be more aggressive with each other. Social Behavior: Best with larger haps in a spacious aquarium with long swimming lanes. Aquarium Care Tank Size: A 180 gallon aquarium or larger is recommended for long-term adult care. Water Parameters: 74-84°F, pH 7.4-8.4, hard water. Tank Setup: Provide long open swimming space, sand, limited stable rockwork, and very strong filtration. Diet and Feeding Primary Staple: Feed a quality daily diet such as Ron’s Peacock & Hap Adult Food. Juveniles: Growing fish can be fed Ron’s Juvenile Food.
