The Mallard is the most widespread and abundant duck in North America, and is the ancestor of nearly all domestic duck breeds. It is the most hunted duck species. Males have an iri descent green head and pale body, while females are a mottled brown with blue wing patches. Mallards pair in autumn, court through winter, and breed in spring.
