One of the last Moresque synagogues in Europe. Malmö synagoge (בית הכנסת של מאלמו) was built 1903 and designed by the architect John Smedberg. In order to build the synagogue, an a ssembly was started in 1871. After collecting design ideas and plans, they chose John Smedberg to be the leading architect for the building. With its unique Moresque style, it's a unique building not only in Malmö but in Europe. This synagogue is one of the last standing Moresque synagogues in Europe due to most of them being destroyed under the Kristallnacht (9 Nov 1938). Therefore this building represents an essential piece of historical European building culture that has largely been lost. Show more
