The Maltese Falcon fig has a sweet amber and red pulp underneath a soft skin. The flavor is sweet with a hint of berry and no seed crunch. Maltese Falcon trees will grow some 7-lobed leaves and the variety is said to have good tolerance to rains. This fig shares a name with the legendary jewel encrusted falcon intended as a gift for King Charles V of Spain. Like the stolen Maltese Falcon, this variety was once rare and highly sought after. Today, fig collectors can add Maltese Falcon to their collection knowing that it is a tried and true variety amongst growers. Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December): We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March. **All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees. Rooted Cuttings(Spring): We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span.
