(48 c 36.5 cm)Edition of 40 + 10 AP; each with u nique variations In June 2017, the Walker Art Center unveiled a major commission by Dutch artist Mark Manders as part of the reopening of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. For his first permanent outdoor work in the US, Manders created September Room - an environment of six sculptures, positioned within one of the Garden's original formal quads. Combining human forms, architectural elements and everyday objects, Manders' grouping of sculptures suggests a dreamlike place at once ancient and new. Man-size Calculation Casting Shadow is an edition of hand-assembled collages, each one unique. The top element is a lithograph, showing two reclining figures, which are the genesis for the artist's 2017 Walker Garden commission. The lithograph is fixed to a collage of prints from the artist's Fake Newspaper series - fictional, custom-made broadsheets that include nonsensical combinations of words that Manders has culled from the English language dictionary. To create this edition, Manders carefully layered and collaged the newsprints, so that each edition is unique and hand-made. Show more
