As enterprises automate the work flows of their distribution centers the role of collaborative robots is poised to reinvent traditional supply chain operations. Historically, robots in the warehouse have been utilized for industrial applications as a part of an assembly line, completing repetitious heavy duty tasks at high operating speeds that are unsafe for human collaboration. While the safety parameters and technology were previously undeveloped for human interaction, the integration of machine vision and sensor systems has allowed for enhanced safety features that allow robots to work alongside humans within the four walls. Utilizing up to seven degrees of freedom for a full range of motion and equipped with machine learning software, collaborative robots are designed to augment human responsibilities by automating tasks that are monotonous, potentially dangerous and time consuming.
