Manako’s Hawaiian name signals its connection to the islands. Back in the late 1800s, sugarcane farming was a major part of Hawaiian industry. Alexander & Baldwin was a company at the forefront in agriculture and industrialization on the islands, but Samuel T. Alexander was interested in more than just profits. He was deeply curious about plants and their uses. That curiosity led him to explore Europe, Hawaii, and China at a time when the stakes of traveling in remote locations were high, but the rewards of discovering rare and useful plants were higher. While Alexander traveled, he collected plants and seeds and brought them back to California where they could be cultivated on his property. Today, the Manako mother tree still grows on Alexander’s 1700 acre property in Happy Valley, California. California fig growers at Sacred Origins have recently begun releasing this heirloom fig that has lasted over 100 years and is still growing strong. Terms and Conditions: ***Please be sure to read our Terms and Conditions before purchasing cuttings*** When do we ship cuttings? Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December): We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March. **All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees. Rooted Cuttings(Spring): We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span.
