Here at Dahlia May, we grow our tulips for cut flower production, meaning that we treat them as annuals and pull up the entire plant, including the bulb, during harvest. In your home garden, there is no need to lift the bulb in the spring after flowering. Allow the foliage of your plant to die back naturally after blooming, as this process helps nourish the bulb for the subsequent year. We find that many specialty tulips do not typically perennialize well in the garden.
