MANIAC BUTCHER remains a towering monument of purity within the underground. With their fourth full length offering, “Cerna Krev”, the Czech masters deliver a violent rebuttal to m odern trends. This is black metal in its most primal form, stripped of all pretense and experimental fluff. The sonic architecture of “Cerna Krev” is built on relentless speed and a freezing atmosphere. The guitar work cuts through the mix with a razor sharpness that defines the band’s signature sound. Tracks like ‘Intermezzo’ offer a necessary shift in pace, proving that the band possesses a keen sense of dynamics despite their commitment to raw brutality. The vocal performance is the most striking element here. The shrieks sound like the cries of a tortured soul echoing from a forgotten crypt. These vocals are perfectly complemented by high speed snare work and constant, hammering cymbals. By the time the final notes of the closing track ‘Cerna Krev’ fade out, it is clear that MANIAC BUTCHER has achieved a level of morbid excellence that few can match. Show more
