Marla is created by plying two strands of yarn that have been dyed separately together. The result is a stunning, marled fabric where the color is even & uniformly distributed. Each colorway has a gorgeous depth of saturated color that knits into unique cardigans, pullovers, hats, cowls & other accessories. Spun with 100% superwash Merino wool, the DK weight yarn has a pleasing soft, textural hand. This is the sister yarn to Sami, dyed with a coordinating color palette. All of Manos del Uruguay yarns are hand dyed. The artisans use big kettles heated by wood-fueled boilers, dyeing in small batches creating wonderful colors. The colors of Manos yarns are bright and wild, full of nuances and variations. No two skeins are the same, each one is unique, a testimony of a particular moment. Due to the small batch hand-dyed process, there may be differences in colors between skeins. Order enough yarn for your project for a better likelihood that skeins will match. Alternate skeins where needed. All Manos del Uruguay yarns are mulesing-free. Our notes After making a few of our own projects with this yarn, here's what we've found: Loose and drapey: When worked with the recommended needles or hook, the fabric this creates is loose, drapey, and very elastic. Beautiful color transitions: The colors in this yarn are absolutely stunning! The marled variegation is very interesting, and has a lot of variety and depth to it when worked up into fabric. The colors look completely different in the skein, wound into a ball, and made into fabric. Not as splitty as expected: Given that this is a 2-ply yarn and not as tight of a spin as some others, we were pleasantly surprised that it was less splitty than expected. You may notice this more with crochet or doing a long tail cast on. Somewhat slubby: There's a small amount of variance in the thickness of the yarn, which gives it a lovely texture when you come across the slubs. We also noticed a small amount of variation in how tightly it was spun, mostly due to the slubs. Easy to work with: Marla is gentle on the hands and works up easily. It also blocks well and doesn't bleed as much as we expected even in cold water. Soft and pleasant: Very skin-friendly and soft. This is perfect for shawls, cowls, hats, and anything else that'll sit against your skin. It has a lovely plush, squishy texture when worked up, and a buttery feel. For an even cushier feel, size your needles or hook up a little. Very springy: This is surprisingly springy and elastic, especially for a superwash. A few of our swatchers don't particularly care for superwash, but this got a solid "I actually like this" from all of them. Swatch details All swatches were wet blocked before measuring.
