Instructors: Kristine Vejar and Sarah Ollikkala Jones In this class, you will learn to: + Print with flowers and leaves onto cloth using The Modern Natural Dyer and Journeys in Natural Dyeing as reference. + Steps in the natural dyeing process to create long-lasting natural color on cotton and linen fabric. + Which plants contain dye, their identifying properties, and where they can be found. ~~~ Eco-printing is a wonderful way to connect with your garden and plants in a whole new way. This captivating technique provides a way to bring your garden everywhere you go and to create cloth that is uniquely yours. In this class, we will be dyeing cotton and linen fabric. Once you are done dyeing, sew these beautiful fabrics into a quilt, wall hanging, table linens, or clothing. We will meet in the Verb outdoor dye studio and educational dye garden. (Please dress for comfort, crafting, and weather conditions.) You will leave this class with a series of eco-printed fabrics and a practical foundation to starting your own eco-printing practice using The Modern Natural Dyer and Journeys in Natural Dyeing. She has written two books on the subject of natural dyeing: The Modern Natural Dyer and Journeys in Natural Dyeing. She adores nature and loves to cook, read, dye, make, and hang out with her pups, Callie and Jasper. She also loves to introduce people to the art and science of natural dyeing. Sarah is the production dyer at Verb. She loves to experiment with different techniques and to create new colors. Sarah has a BS in Chemistry from UC Berkeley and excels at the complex math necessary to achieve consistent colors and results. An avid knitter, sewist, and baker, Sarah also loves to hike, collect flowers, and try out new recipes and crafts. And is a contributing writer and researcher of Journeys in Natural Dyeing.
