Karlu Karlu This design is inspired by the first morning-light colours of Karlu Karlu (The Devils Marbles). Not far from the Stuart Highway, about an hour south of Tennant Creek, e normous, rounded boulders rest balanced in piles, like a giant’s discarded marbles. Karlu Karlu means ‘round boulders’ in the local Aboriginal languages and it is a significant sacred site. Having spent a couple of days exploring the area with my family when my children were younger, Karlu Karlu is still a favourite place to visit on a trip ‘down the track’. Very early morning and last thing in the evening are the best times to view Karlu Karlu, when the light turns them a vibrant orange-red. Show more
