Developed in Oregon in the 1950s, Marion is a prized blackberry cultivar known for its exceptional flavor, large size, and vigorous growth habit. It was developed through a breedin g program at Oregon State University and was released in 1956. Marion produces large, slightly conical berries with a rich, complex taste and intense, earthy undertones. Ideal for fresh eating, baking, jams, jellies, and syrups. As a trailing blackberry, it can grow 5 to 6 feet tall and requires some sort of trellising or support. Prune spent canes after fruiting to encourage new growth and better yields. Marion prefers full sun and well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Thrives in USDA zones 6 through 9, but may require winter protection in colder regions. Show more
