Inside the cedar body, Staedtler's world-famous graphite cores are bonded to the wood using a process that completely adheres the exterior of the core to the interior of the pencil. This prevents the graphite core from cracking during sharpening or use. To make your bold lines bolder and your fine lines finer, Mars Lumograph 100 pencils have graphite cores in several different widths. The softest grade, 12B, has a 4.5 mm core.
