Three price points in one box is the genuinely useful thing here. Avalanche is cheap enough to round out a roster that has run short of threat, Lady Mastermind sits in the middle and also carries a Hellfire Club ticket, and Exodus is a serious top-of-list investment who expects to be the piece your opponent plans around. All three play for the Brotherhood of Mutants, and none of them can lead it. That is the limitation to understand before buying: this box deepens a Brotherhood roster, it does not start one. You need Magneto or Mystique on the table first, and both of those are in the X-Men Starter Set, so the sensible order is starter set, then this. Buying it the other way round leaves you with three characters that cannot form a legal affiliation between them.Once the leadership is sorted, the trio fills the gaps a Brotherhood list usually has. Exodus gives the squad a heavy piece that is not Magneto, Lady Mastermind gives it a second scheming presence, and Avalanche gives it a body that costs almost nothing. Painters get three dynamic sculpts out of it. Skip it if you are building Uncanny X-Men rather than their opposition, because only Lady Mastermind reaches outside the Brotherhood, and only into the Hellfire Club.
