It earned its nickname because its bright, brassy-yellow color can easily trick people into thinking it’s real gold. What it looks like Pyrite is famous for its mirror-like metallic luster and pale gold color. Unlike real gold, which looks softer and richer in tone, pyrite often appears slightly more silvery or brassy. One of its coolest traits is how it forms: perfect geometric shapes, especially cubes with fine parallel lines (striations) on their faces. You’ll also see it in clusters, nodules, or radiating “sun” formations.
