Maston & Greg Foat – Moving Images is a beautifully realised collaboration rooted in the tradition of classic European library music while sounding unmistakably contemporary. Recorded in Switzerland and released as the first title on Daniel O’Sullivan’s Magic Hollow imprint, the album draws together analogue synthesis, vintage keyboards, drum machines and economical melodic writing into a set of highly evocative instrumental pieces. Both Frank Maston and Greg Foat are deeply attuned to the craft of mood, tone and arrangement, and that sensitivity runs throughout Moving Images. The record nods to the golden age of library composition without slipping into imitation, instead translating its discipline and atmosphere into a modern context defined by warmth, clarity and restraint. Each piece feels cinematic and carefully balanced, with Swiss bassist Elie Ghersinu providing a rich, grounding presence across the album. The music is elegant, understated and highly functional in the best possible sense: it suggests scenes, motion and texture, while still rewarding focused listening away from any visual context. Moving Images is an excellent record for listeners interested in library-inspired composition, analogue ambience, soundtrack-adjacent jazz and modern instrumental music with genuine depth and replay value.
