Our Matar Dal meal kit can be used to create a warm, hearty soup to eat on its own or a flavorful dal to eat alongside rice. Flavored with Panch Phoron, Bay Leaves, Ajowan, and Cumin, this dish is spicy, nutty, smokey, and sweet. Add a splash of mustard oil and you'll have dinner ready in no time. Recipe Ingredients:1 Tbls Mustard Oil1/2 onion sliced Optional: 1-2 green chiles like cayenne, choppedOil, Salt to TasteLemon Rinse and drain lentils. In a pot combine lentils, 2 cups water, spice pack 1, 1/2 tsp salt, and mustard oil over medium heat. Cover and let cook for 20 minutes (pressure cooker 3 whistles.) The lentils should be soft with some still holding their shape. In a different pot, warm 2 TBLS oil over medium heat. Add spice pack 2. When the spices start to sizzle, add onions and optional green chiles and stir well. Cook until the onions soften and become translucent. Add 1 cup of water, cooked lentils, and spice pack 3. Give a good stir and let the mixture come to a simmer. Salt to taste.You can serve the dal at this point for a more soupy texture or shut off the heat and cover so that the lentils soak up more of the water for a thicker consistency. Add a squeeze of lemon and serve with rice.
