Initially submitted as tribute tea paid as annual taxes, records later indicate it was purchased by the feudal lord, thereby earning the honor of becoming the feudal lord's official tea. Initially offered as tribute tea, “Kenjō-cha” paid as annual taxes, records later indicate the lord purchased it, granting it the honor of becoming a tea supplier to the domain lord. Since then, Takema Tea has been used as “Gozen cha” to be served for the lord by successive generations of the Hosokawa family.
