The clay itself is matte black with no glaze over it. I made this by wedging black pigment into a white clay to turn the whole clay black. I then hand rolled it into a slab using a rolling pin, traced, measured and cut out each piece before assembling it to make the bookend. Once the bookend is dry I bisque fire it in the kiln and then fire it again to make the final product. The vase bookend is for dried flowers or other dried foliage. It is not meant to hold water. If you want it to be heavier or more secure, place pebbles or the like in the bottom. Dimensions: about 5in high, 4.5in across, 1.5in deep The color can be hard to capture in a photo.
