No need to trim the wick before your very first burn. Each time you want to burn your candle, you must trim the wick leaving around 1/4” showing. Basically you want to cutoff the burn ball at the top of the wick. Simply lower the opened wick trimmer into the candle, snip the wick, and discard the debris.
