A vase of medlars that were even opening their flowers as I drew them.The shapes of the leaves and the rhythm of these stems was intriguing to draw. A minutes walk from my studio is a wonderful avenue of medlars at St.Mary’s, Totnes.I often walk this way throughout the year and enjoy how these trees have their own way of celebrating each season. The Spring this year has been particularly good and flowers on these trees in May are so abundant it will be a good year for the bees and fruits. The idea of drawing regular still life compositions for me anyway, is that not only does this mean one is practising drawing. But just as importantly working on composition, both these skills are key for drawing landscapes when out walking, or still lifes.
