Air Conditioning Compressor for the 4.0L V8 petrol engine - the driven unit at the head of the air conditioning refrigerant circuit. Belt-driven from the engine's accessory drive through an electromagnetic clutch, the compressor draws low-pressure refrigerant vapour from the evaporator and delivers it at high pressure to the condenser, where the refrigerant sheds heat and condenses before passing on to the receiver/drier and the expansion valve. A compressor that no longer builds pressure, or a clutch that will not engage, presents as no cooling at the vents with the rest of the circuit intact. Supplied as the compressor unit only; the manifold is not included and is transferred from the original compressor. The refrigerant circuit must be evacuated and recharged by an equipped workshop after replacement, and the receiver/drier is normally renewed at the same time.
