Over its service life, the aircraft dramatically shifted from its original design purpose to become a crucial piece of the strategic nuclear air defense and tactical reconnaissance infrastructure for both the United States and Canada. A total of 807 McDonnell F-101 Voodoo aircraft were built across multiple variants. Production ran from 1954 to 1961.
