In the mid-1990’s a new material, McFly Foam yarn hit the market and tying nice, round eggs has been easier ever since. Because the yarn is easier to cut, achieving a round egg is also much easier. An advantage to tying these flies is most of the material sits above the hook shank without impeding the hook gap. The material allows you to use a little smaller hook while keeping the egg the focal point hiding the hook. McFly Foam Yarn is available in wide range of colors and tiers can mix them or incorporate dots for custom combinations. The dye used on McFly Foam Yarn hold its color for eternity and won’t fade in the water or in your fly box. You go through a lot of egg patterns, particularly because we are fishing them behind salmon on or near the bottom.
