Just like the base game, the art work is stunning. The canoe down the river adds considerable Strategy with additional paths for victory to the base game. We won't always play with the expansion due to the additional setup, but if it's a more formal affair with guests I see no reason not to add it. It's not overly complicated and easily taught to players at the same time with the base game. We did it with our two children aged 10 amd 12 without issue. They all loved it. For this expansion I wouldn't hesitate recommending it, if you love the base game. Our only frustration was the insert not accomodating the new card deck. So it's an 8 / 10 from us.
