Pheromone Lures for Mealybug Control Mealybug are destructive plant pests and very challenging to control due to their white waxy protective coating and their tendency to hide out in inaccessible areas. Trapping the male mealybugs is just one strategy to reduce the population. Mealybug lures contain chemical pheromones that attract male mealybugs. Males are tiny winged insects that resemble gnats, with two white tail filaments. Using specific pheromones, lures can be used to monitor and attract these pests.
