This is a distance calculator for a map. You roll it along the route, and it tells you the distance. Along with the compass, it carries the theme of "finding my way." There’s a bit of a family debate over where it came from— I’m pretty sure it was my grandfather’s, used for sailing, but my partner insists it belonged to his grandfather, who used it for road trips. Either way, it’s one of those little objects that ties together different paths - and overlapping memories.
