The dream catcher is one of the most enduring symbols of Native American culture, believed to be able to catch bad dreams whilst allowing good dreams to pass on through. However, dream catchers hold much more cultural and spiritual significance, and traditionally originated from the Ojibwe (Chippewa) culture. Their dream catchers were created from natural materials including willow or plant fibers as well as decorations including feathers and beads and were closely associated with a mythological figure known as Asibikaashi, or "the Spider Woman". Asibikaashi was a protector of the people, especially children, and as such dream catchers were hung over the beds of Ojibwe children to protect them from any evil.
