The Kainamui factory sits in Ngariama, in the Gichugu division of Kirinyaga, and it's fed by around 1,800 smallholder farmers who belong to the New Ngariama Farmers Cooperative Soc iety. Every one of them brings cherry in by hand, and it all gets sorted, washed, and dried together at 1740 meters. The cup is a different animal from the Karimikui — less jammy, more structured. Cacao and praline lead, with green tea and a hoppy, almost bitter-bright edge running underneath. The citric acidity is intensely tart and the sweetness comes in syrupy behind it. It's a cup with some backbone to it. Show more
