For over a century, Gränsfors Bruk has been hand-forging axes in northern Sweden, and the Medium Carving Axe represents the pinnacle of their carving axe range. Based on the celebrated Large Carving Axe — originally developed in collaboration with master craftsmen Wille Sundqvist and Onni Linnanheimo and inspired by traditional Scandinavian carving axes — this medium-sized version is scaled to roughly 90% of the original, delivering a tool that's easier to handle without sacrificing capability Each axe head is hand-forged from recycled steel at the Gränsfors Bruk forge, where every smith stamps their initials on the head as a mark of personal craftsmanship and accountability. The hickory handle — slightly thicker than the walnut handle used in the limited edition version, refined based on customer feedback — provides a secure, comfortable grip. The included vegetable-tanned leather sheath protects the edge during storage and transport. Available with a standard double-sided edge or specially ordered with a left or right side carving grind, it can be tailored to your preferred carving style.
