Medúlla is Björk’s fifth major-label solo album, released in late August 2004, conceived as an almost entirely vocal record that strips away most conventional instrumentation to focus on the human voice in all its textures and possibilities. Musically, the record ranges from dense, choral pieces and Gregorian‑style hymns (“Vökuró,” “Sonnets / Unrealities XI”) to intimate miniatures (“Show Me Forgiveness”), pop-leaning tracks like “Who Is It,” and more abrasive experiments such as “Ancestors” and “Oceania” (the latter written for the 2004 Athens Olympics).
