The light from the flaming star streaks down to Earth, reflecting off the boundaries of the ocean. As the light cascades throughout the scene, it catches the edges of salty water droplets that are being thrown up by the rush of the tide. The scene is perfectly illuminated for its purpose: the proclamation of the coming sun, in all of its glory. This is MEKORI. STORY This photograph, MEKORI, was captured in Florida at sunrise. Its name derives from the Hebrew word מְקוֹרִי, meaning “origin.” As I reveal the story behind the image, keep this translation in mind. The purpose of this photograph is to provide contrasts between us and whoever controls eternity. The light that stands above us was there during the creation of the Earth, and it is the closest, visible object to “the beginning”. Yet, beyond it stands its creator, the true origin of all things. Nevertheless, the sun still stands as a representative of the creator. It is far greater than our Earth, it is far purer than any of us can be on our own, and it is much older than you or me. The gap between its greatness and our obscurity is light-years in distance! The same is so for the creator of our sun. He stands above us and the sun and the network of galaxies, knowing all and loving all. His greatness, His glory, surpasses measurement with the simple phrase “light-years”, and instead, something unbestowed to our vocabulary is used to describe it.
