The backing pape r peels off the adhesive backed pattern. Simply stick it to your fabric, stitch over the pattern, and then soak in warm water and the pattern will dissolve away. Notes: I have used this particular product. It does wash away completely. I hold mine under a running warm water tap. It doesn't gum up on your needle, but it does add some resistance to your fabric. On thick fabrics I tend to use back stitches and space them to look like sashiko stitches. On lighter fabrics I can use sashiko stitching by putting less stitches on the needle before pulling it through the fabric. Warming the patch between your hands will activate the stickiness if it feels like it won't stick.
