MultiCam was developed by Crye Precision in the early 2000s as a multi-environment camouflage pattern intended to perform across a wide range of terrain and lighting conditions. Unlike environment-specific patterns, MultiCam uses a blended gradient colour palette combining tans, greens, browns, and transitional tones. This approach allows the pattern to adapt visually as surrounding environments and light levels change, reducing contrast rather than attempting exact terrain matching. The pattern was designed to function effectively from close to long engagement distances, maintaining detail up close while blending at range. MultiCam has been widely adopted and evaluated by military and law-enforcement organisations globally and has become a reference standard for multi-terrain camouflage design.
