A wonderful "swooshing" sound is created by the cabasa. Steel beads are strung around a cylinder of corrugated metal, which is mounted on a wooden handle. To play it, hold one hand against the beads and twist the handle with the other. Many more rhythmic patterns and effects can be achieved by shaking it or striking it against a palm.
