Before becoming one of the loudest animals in the jungle, cicada larvae undergo metamorphosis and emerge as winged adults. This cicada had just emerged from its exuviae in the clou d forest of Ecuador and was temporarily unable to move as it prepared its wings for flight. I used a macro lens and an off-camera flash to photograph the intricate wing details up close. Show more
